With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the earthly transition of Timothy Ray Prater of Gadsden, formerly of Piedmont, who traded time for eternity on Monday, April 8, 2024.
Timothy Ray Prater was born on September 25, 1944, to the late Ocie and Evelyn Prater in Piedmont, Alabama.
At an early age, Ray established his faith in Christ at Thankful Baptist Church, where he served as an Usher and a devoted Deacon for many years. Ray graduated from Bethune High School in Piedmont, Alabama. Mr. Prater proudly served his country in the United States Army. He fought in the Vietnam War from August 1965 to June 1967 where he drove infantry trucks until his honorable discharge. Ray worked and retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Gadsden, Alabama where he met his loving wife, Lillie Prater.
Ray enjoyed gardening and working in the yard with Lillie. His favorite color was red and although he loved Corvettes, they could not top his red Ford Ranger "Little Buddy." Ray loved to talk, laugh and tell jokes. He was loved and respected by everyone who met and knew him.
Ray departed this life April 8th, 2024. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Julia Prater; five brothers, Bobby Joe Prater, Daniel Lee Prater, Jerry Fain Prater, Ocie Carl Prater, Willis Jack Prater; two grandchildren, Anthony Ray Mostella, Jr. and Tanisha Woods.
Ray's memories will be cherished by all who knew and loved him. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Lillie Prater, East Gadsden, AL; three daughters, Charlene (Derick) Davis, Piedmont, AL, Reflesia (Morris) Fitch, Bessemer, AL, Loretha (Dewayne) Bradford, Chelsea, AL; three sons, Bruce (Hazel) Woods, Ellerbe, NC, Craig Woods, Trussville, AL, Marty (HueLanda) Woods, Helena. AL; 16 grandchildren; a host of relatives, friends and two special persons, Minister Randy Duckett and JW.
